Guide to Safe and Non-Toxic Home Products
A Clean, Healthier Home Event
This month, we hosted a Clean, Healthier Home event at our Palisades Store to discuss toxins that might be hiding in your home. These toxins may be causing you and your family respiratory and reproductive illnesses. The event was inspired by my own personal health journey.
Last year, I faced a serious health struggle with debilitating gastrointestinal issues. It was a tough time, as I was mostly on bed rest and had to take a step back from many aspects of my life and work. During this period, I began to rethink everything from my eating habits to the overall lifestyle choices I was making. During this time I met Michael Drescher. He is a social impact investor, a Ted Talk speaker, a writer, and a philanthropist. He created a company called Vibrant Body which produces and sells high-quality and health-conscious, non-toxic women's intimate apparel. He explained the skin is our biggest organ that takes in toxins from everything including dyes and metals etc. I began to wonder about all of the things that touch our bodies and that can be harmful to us. I started thinking about bedding, upholstery, and more - all the things we live with in our homes. This started my journey to a clean home and this wonderful event.
We had an incredible panel of experts who shared their insights and experiences as well as practical steps to make homes safer and healthier. Our panel members included:
- Ed Begley Jr. and Rachelle Carson-Begley, renowned environmentalists and the founders of Begley Living. Ed and Rachelle have been at the forefront of advocating for sustainable living practices and provided a wealth of knowledge on how to create a toxin-free home.
- Jen and Rusty Stout, the founders of Healthier Homes. Jen and Rusty are dedicated to helping families create safer living environments through practical and effective solutions. Their insights into toxin-free living were invaluable.
- Dr. Nicole Van Groningen, an internal medicine physician at Cedars Sinai. She brought a medical perspective to our discussion, highlighting the impact of toxins on our health and how reducing exposure can improve our well-being.
Creating Transparency in the Home Industry
We were so grateful to those who attended and educated themselves about what toxicity in the home does to people. This is a particularly important topic, and we wanted to educate and offer choices to people who are designing their homes inside and out.
The home industry is completely unregulated in terms of transparency of product origin, and toxic finishes. We hope we’re at the forefront of helping our industry to be more transparent and let consumers know what’s in the products that they are buying. The dangers of toxicity in your home can be serious and lead to reproductive harm, repository issues, and even cancers.
The goal of the event was for people to understand the difference between what they are buying and what is available to them. We also discussed body burden and what some of these toxins can do to your body. We don’t want to cause anxiety, we simply want to educate individuals about ways to improve their lifestyle.
I want to make sure my company offers choices to people like myself who find it so important to live a toxic-free lifestyle. We offer products in almost all of our categories that are clean products. Everything from furniture, bedding, pillows, and construction of our sofas.
Guide to Safe and Non-Toxic Home Products
After the event, we sent all attendees a digital Guide to Safe and Non-Toxic Home Products which we are excited to make available to everyone!
You can find and begin using the guide here.
I hope to empower people to make changes in their own homes for a healthier, toxic-free environment. Remember, making small, incremental changes can lead to significant improvements in our health and well-being. Whether it's choosing non-toxic products, being mindful of the materials we bring into our homes, or simply staying informed, every step counts.
