Early Holiday Prep in Montana
I know it’s a little early, but since I won’t be back at my Montana home until Thanksgiving, I’ve started thinking ahead to how the holiday will take shape here.
We usually spend Thanksgiving at the ranch, and this year will be especially meaningful. Some dear friends—who, like us, lost their home in the Palisades fire—will be joining us, along with my children and one of my closest friends. I want this to be a truly cozy and comforting holiday, where no one feels like they’re missing anything.
With a full house, the guest house is my first priority. I’ve been going through all of my guest room essentials—bed linens, pillows, duvet covers—and making sure everything is clean, ironed, and ready. There’s something so satisfying about organizing these details well in advance.
Tip: If your pillows or bedding could use a refresh, visit our website to explore our Pillow Bar (all non-toxic!) and our Elizabeth Lamont bedding collection. Our bedding is completely non-toxic, incredibly soft, and truly wonderful.
Setting the Table
Thanksgiving always centers around the table, so I’ve been evaluating my table linens and imagining how it will look this year.
Tip: Before the season gets busy, check your table linens for stains left over from last year. A paste of baking soda and water works wonders—rub it in gently before washing or send them to the dry cleaner if needed.
I love layering placemats and tablecloths. A tablecloth instantly elevates the dining room for the holiday weekend, while placemats help keep things tidy and can be easily removed for breakfast the next morning.
This year I’m excited to use our new Festival tablecloths from Sferra. They come in such a beautiful range of colors—it doesn’t always have to be white, cream, or orange for Thanksgiving.
I’m also obsessed with our whip-stitch, leather-look placemats from Bodrum. They bring that warm fall feel, and the best part? They’re wipeable—so even if things get a little messy, one swipe and they look brand new.
In the Kitchen
It’s very fall here in Montana—crisp mornings and evenings, with sunny, warm days. Perfect baking weather.
I had a few extra zucchini from the farmers market, so I baked a delicious chocolate zucchini bread with walnuts. For any dessert bread, I love using a pie plate instead of a loaf pan—it bakes beautifully into a pretty circle, and slices are so easy to cut. [link Casa Fina pie dish]
Chocolate Zucchini Bread Recipe
- 2 cups grated zucchini (squeeze water out in a towel)
- 1 cup organic flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp almond butter
- 1 Tbsp vanilla
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 1 stick butter
- ¼ cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate nibs
- ¼ cup chopped walnuts
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Butter a round pie plate.
Mix wet ingredients in one bowl until combined.
Slowly add dry ingredients, mixing gently.
Fold in chocolate and walnuts.
Pour into the pie plate and bake ~30 minutes, checking with a toothpick.
Cool, dust with powdered sugar, and enjoy!
What I’m Watching
On quiet Montana nights, I’ve been catching up on Downton Abbey. For the last movie premiere, I got dressed up with a friend and we had the best time. I’m behind this year, so it felt so good to sink into the 1920s world of England and the South of France. The costumes were gorgeous, the story moving (yes, I cried at the end!), and of course, the sets were beyond stunning.
Naturally, I couldn’t take my eyes off the bedding! To bring a touch of that richness home, I’m linking our beautiful lace bedding—lace is making a huge comeback, from fashion to interiors.

What’s in My Cart
I’m eager to finish the guest house before Thanksgiving. I’ve just ordered this wonderful bamboo dresser from our site. It’s the perfect size for extra pillows, blankets, and a spot for guests to tuck away a few of their things.
